Hawker Pacific and Alliance Airlines have announced that heavy maintenance for a permanent line of Fokker aircraft is to be supported through Hawker Pacific’s newly extended Cairns facility. Alliance Airlines is the largest operator of Fokker aircraft in the world.

This announcement comes as aviation industry representatives met recently at a Queensland Government round table to explore growth opportunities for Queensland to capture a slice of the significant forecasted growth in the demand for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2018, with the support of the Queensland Government’s Jobs and Regional Growth Fund, Hawker Pacific expanded its Cairns facility by 50% to enable local maintenance opportunities for operators of heavy maintenance, turboprop and jet powered commercial aircraft within the Asia Pacific region.

These maintenance events will spur significant job growth in regional Queensland, to which Hawker Pacific is committed to creating new apprenticeship opportunities, while enabling and supporting a regional location in Queensland to compete in heavy maintenance at a global level.

“The Queensland Government has been a long-term supporter of Aviation in the state,” said Jason Burzacott, VP MRO Australia Hawker Pacific. “As the key enabler to building capability and capacity in Cairns, we would not be in this position without their ongoing support. We have a broad range of capabilities, a team with tremendous expertise and knowledge, and we welcome the chance to explore more opportunities.

Lee Schofield, CEO Alliance Airlines, said, “Having a local solution for heavy maintenance support will provide added reliability and availability for our fleet of aircraft, which ensures better support for our customers, and promote job growth in Queensland.”

Nev Evans, Sales Director MRO Australia Hawker Pacific, added, “We are grateful for the opportunity to demonstrate Hawker Pacific’s ability to compete internationally on this aircraft type, and have every confidence that this heavy maintenance solution will achieve its desired result of keeping jobs in Queensland.”
